Municipal Achievement Award—Presented to municipalities that have made a major contribution to effective environmental management by providing the proper institutional setting to allow and guarantee responsible oversight, and by providing adequate financial support. This is not a wastewater facility award; it includes all activities at facilities impacting on the water environment (i.e., stormwater, wastewater, run-off, solid waste, toxics, air pollution, etc.).
Award Criteria: A public entity that demonstrates significant, lasting, and measurable excellence in water quality improvement or in prevention of water quality degradation in a region, basin or water body.

Industrial Achievement Award—Recognizes a company’s commitment of financial, technical, and management resources to meet water quality goals, and made this objective a responsibility at all levels. Recipients can come from all environmental areas (i.e., storm water, wastewater, solid waste, toxics and air pollution).
Award Criteria: Recipient must demonstrate a significant achievement in design, operation or process change resulting in demonstrated long-term water quality improvement.

Beneficial Use of Biosolids Award—Honors significant contributions in the development and implementation of cost-effective, environmentally safe, and publicly acceptable biosolids beneficial use practices which recycle nutrients, improve soil conditions, or otherwise conserve valuable natural resources.

Emmeline Moore Award—Given annually to an Association Member who has made a significant impact in the area of water quality management, environmental engineering and/or water and sewer infrastructure development.
Award Criteria:
- Must be a member of the New York Water Environment Association for a minimum of three (3) years.
- Must be a municipal/government employee within the State of New York.
- Must demonstrate long-term commitment and/or outstanding contribution in areas of water quality management, environmental science, environmental engineering and/or water and sewer infrastructure development.

Environmental Science Award—Annual recognition of an Association Member for their significant contribution to the field of environmental science in the water environment sector.
Award Criteria:
- Must be a current member of the New York Water Environment Association.
- A recognized, significant contribution in the scientific area in the water environment field.
- Development and implementation of a project and/or program of scientific nature relating to the water environment field.

Environmental Engineer Award—Given annually to an Association Member who has made a significant impact in the area of environmental engineering and management.
Award Criteria:
- Must be a current member of the New York Water Environment Association.
- Must be a registered Professional Engineer in New York State.
- Must demonstrate long-term commitment and/or outstanding contributions in the environmental engineering field, and how improved water quality resulted.

Nelson A. Rockefeller Award—Recognizes an elected official at the city (population over 250,000), state, or national level who has made a substantial and meaningful contribution to advancing effective environmental programs.
Award Criteria:
- Sponsoring legislation advancing and supporting environmental programs.
- Financial support to environmental programs.
- Support of environmental public education efforts.
- Promotion of environmental research programs.

Frank E. Van Lare Award—Celebrates a locally-elected official at the county, city, town or village level who has enacted and advanced effective water quality environment programs.
Award Criteria:
- Support of local environmental projects including brownfields, water quality, watershed management, stormwater, erosion and sediment control programs, air quality, recycling programs and air quality programs.
- Commitment of resources, both financial and personnel, to improving the environment.
- Promoting local laws that improve the environment.
- Promotion of environmental public education efforts.

Sustainability Award—Honors an organization that has instituted policies advancing social well-being, environmental health and a just economy while satisfying present day needs without sacrificing the needs of future generations. Honorees will have demonstrated success in developing a culture that encourages and rewards ‘triple bottom-line’ decision making at all levels and departments of the organization.
Award Criteria:
- The organization recognizes its role in sustaining social, economic, and environmental resources for both current and future generations.
- The organization endeavors to remain compliant with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- The organization demonstrates exemplary performance in one or more areas outlined by the United Nations Sustainable Development 17 Climate Goals or equivalent:
