Eight of the GVC NYWEA Board members cooked dinner at the Ronald McDonald House on Feb 27th. This charity houses families with children staying at the hospital. They aim to serve breakfast and dinner each day for the folks living there. We were asked to cook enough to serve 30-40 people, and it took us about 2 hours from start to finish. Everyone loved doing this activity. It was surprisingly low stress as we had a good plan going into it. Their kitchen has three ovens, stovetops, and sinks which made cooking in volume easy. There was also plenty of pots, pans, measuring cups, and utensils available. The Chapter funded the meal. We spent approximately $150 which included all the food and the disposal aluminum trays to serve it in. Thank you to Mrs. (Wayne) Dodsworth for the savvy shopping! Our menu:
Shake and bake chicken breast and pork chops
Mac and Cheese
Mashed potatoes
Toss Salad
Broccoli Raisin Salad
Brownies
Please note: With the virus pandemic, the Rochester RMH is no longer allowing volunteers to cook meals for the families. If you are interested in helping out, they would appreciate donations of catered meals or monetary donations to reach their goal of $10,000. This is enough to buy a month’s worth of groceries for the families.
