The Genesee Valley Chapter of the New York Water Environment Association hosted a half-day technical seminar featuring presentations from professionals across the region. Topics covered current challenges and solutions in wastewater and stormwater management:

  • Genesis and Development of a Regional Wastewater Treatment Solution – Martin Aman, Wayne County Water and Sewer Authority
    Highlighted the planning and construction of a new 3.0 MGD regional wastewater treatment facility serving multiple municipalities in Western Wayne County. The project, nearing completion, showcases successful intermunicipal collaboration and infrastructure investment.

  • Wellsville Wastewater Treatment Facility Project – Bill Davis, Mackenzie Delaney (MRB Group), and Brad Mattison (Village of Wellsville)
    Focused on navigating budget constraints and rebidding efforts to deliver essential WWTP upgrades. The team discussed strategic scope reductions, process improvements, and leveraging leachate treatment revenue to move the project forward.

  • Electrical 101 for Wastewater Professionals – Brian Link, Koester Associates
    Offered a practical overview of common electrical systems in wastewater facilities, emphasizing safety protocols, troubleshooting basics, and the importance of operator training in electrical awareness and procedures.

  • Elmira High School Stormwater Case Study – Dr. Luke Scannell, NYSDEC
    Explored stormwater management design on an active remediation site, detailing how regulatory constraints and site limitations shaped the design of athletic field drainage systems and post-construction control practices.
