Typical Work Activities (Operator)
- operates pumps, motors, air compressors, filters, digesters, presses and related machinery and equipment and a variety of hand tools;
- inspects and monitors pump stations and plant facilities;
- makes minor repairs to machinery and equipment;
- records readings from meters and gauges;
- treats and disposes of sludge;
- adds chemicals to wastewater;
- takes samples of wastewater for testing;
- completes necessary tests for control of plant operation;
- enters plant operations data onto computer;
- instructs and supervises trainees and other subordinate personnel;
- keeps a log of plant operations and related records;
- operates automotive and heavy-duty equipment as assigned;
- may perform and supervise a variety of custodial duties and the maintenance or buildings and grounds.
Minimum Qualifications (Operator)
Possession of a Grade 3-A or 4-A Certificate issued under the provisions of NYS Environmental Conservation regulations required at time of appointment.
Special Requirements : Possession of a valid NYS Driver’s License
Salary: $32.37/hr
