WWTP Maintenance Mechanic – Gloversville-Johnstown Joint Wastewater Treatment Facility

Typical Work Activities

  • Conducts daily inspection of buildings, machinery and equipment and reports any deficiencies to supervisor;
  • Does preventive maintenance and makes needed repairs on a wide variety of equipment and machinery such as pumps, mechanical bar screens, blowers, conveyors, filter, hydraulic presses, pneumatic equipment, generators, electrical wiring systems, plumbing and piping systems and electrical systems;
  • Fabricates material for repair of machines and equipment, involving grinding, welding, (gas and electric) and acetylene cutting;
  • Performs needed carpentry, painting and maintenance work as needed at the Wastewater Treatment Plant;
  • When assigned, installs, calibrates and maintains wastewater sampling devices at industrial facilities;
  • May operate automotive equipment when assigned;
  • Performs general repairs and maintenance of plant vehicles;

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school, possession of a high school equivalency diploma, or a high school individual education plan diploma, and either:

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an associate degree in mechanical technology, electrical technology or other technical field; or
  • Two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or electrical equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

 SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:  Possession of a valid New York State Operator’s license for the vehicles operated.

salary: $30.57/Hour
