WWTP Lead Operator – Gloversville-Johnstown Joint Wastewater Treatment Facility

Typical Work Activities

  • Responsible for signing various reports including the NetDMR and BMW reports;
  • Supervises and participates in the operation of plant machinery, including grit washers, primary sludge pumps, aeration basin valves and controls, return sludge pumps, digester complex operation, COGENS, UV disinfection, CAST System, dairy and leachate waste systems;
  • Supervises and participates in minor repairs to machinery and equipment;
  • Supervises and participates in tank and equipment cleaning on a scheduled basis;
  • Directs activities of shift operators and other assigned workers;
  • Advises on-coming shift of status of all aspects of plant operations;
  • Reviews plant operations data for accuracy and enters data onto computer;
  • Performs required operation calculations to adjust facility equipment to operate within acceptable levels;
  • Performs inspections;
  • Maintains chemical equipment and parts inventories;
  • Works with vendors and salesmen;
  • Takes wastewater samples and performs required process control tests;
  • Operates automotive equipment as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Type A Plant whose designated plant point score is 76 points or greater:

  • Graduation from high school, possession of a high school equivalency diploma, or a high school individual education plan diploma and *six (6) years of operating experience at a wastewater treatment plant; and
  • Completion of an appropriate course of instruction approved by the Commissioner, Department of Environmental Conservation; and
  • Two (2) years of satisfactory operating experience at an activated sludge wastewater treatment plant with a point score of 76 or greater, and the ability to perform necessary tests.

*Education beyond high school may be substituted for the experience required pursuant to New York State Department of Environmental Conservation regulations.

NOTE:  Possession of a Grade 4-A Certificate issued under the provisions of the New York State Environmental Conservation regulations is required for appointment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:  Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License within six (6) months of appointment.

Salary:         $39.18/Hour
