Water Treatment Plant Operator Trainee, Clyde NY

Water Treatment Plant Operator – Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school or possession of an appropriate equivalency diploma.

Duties: Trainee will undergo on-the-job training to be a qualified operator of a Grade 2B Water Treatment Plant; assists in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant.

Salary: Commensurate based on experience or licensed operator.

All applicants will need to take the Civil Service Test being held in Lyons, NY. Applications for this test must be submitted to the Wayne County Civil Service Office, Lyons New York, along with their fee of $5.00.

Typical Work Activities:

Operates pumps, valves, motors and related machinery and equipment; Performs maintenance work and makes minor repairs to machinery and equipment; Records readings of meters, gauges and scales; Regulates and adjusts chlorinators; Takes samples of water for testing; Makes necessary tests for control of plant operation; Keeps a log of plant operations and related records; Performs custodial duties in connection with maintenance of buildings and grounds

Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

Good knowledge of the practices used and the equipment required in the operation and maintenance of a Grade 2B Water Treatment Plant; working knowledge of the principles and applications of physics, chemistry and bacteriology as they relate to water purification; skill in the operation and repair of pumps, valves and related mechanical and electrical equipment; ability to make routine laboratory and field tests for control of plant operation; ability to read, understand and record data from gauges, scales and meters; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; mechanical aptitude; alertness and dependability; good physical condition.
