Education and TrainingIn addition to training and informational workshops on the latest technologies and research offered at its annual statewide meetings, NYWEA conducts numerous programs and workshops at the local chapter level on topics of interest to all water quality professionals. Training includes valuable workshops for operators co-sponsored with the N.Y. State Department of Environmental Conservation, U.S.E PA and others. Also, operator recertification credit can be earned through attendance at the Federation, Association, and Chapter programs and seminars. Technical PublicationsA variety of technical publications are available by subscription or included in membership dues through the State Association and the Federation. Publications include the national, Water Environment and Technology, Operations Forum, and the Water Environment Research. In addition, newsletters featuring distinct interest areas such as legislative issues, current events, and other topics are published periodically. View NYWEA's calendar of training opportunities. Training LibraryNYWEA offers a training library with an extensive supply of textbooks, articles, films and tapes on water quality topics. Topics include: safety, wastewater collection and treatment and preventative maintenance. Items are available for loan to members at minimal or no charge. Input into RegulationsNYWEA activities provide members with the opportunity to meet and discuss state and federal policies and programs with officials from the NYS DEC and US EPA. The Association's annual Legislative Conference also offers face to face discussions with state legislators and their staffs on state laws and regulations impacting the water quality industry. Public EducationIncreasing the public's understanding of water quality issues is a goal of the NYWEA aimed at greater public involvement and support. Professional quality materials including brochures, videos and slide shows are available through NYWEA to assist members in expanding public education efforts.
