A Nite at the Races

On June 3rd, 2008 during the NYWEA Spring Meeting, members and friends gathered to wager a bet on their lucky horse and help raise funds for Water for People. Attendance was great and bets were running high with a flat screen TV on the line as the grand prize, donated by Greeley and Hansen. Each race was preceded by placing of bets and gathering winnings, with players consulting their race program to decide whether or not Percy Sludge was going to win in the eighth race (he did!). Horses were named in advance by filling out the horse sponsorship forms found in the conference program. Billy Grandner kept the races on schedule as the Master of Ceremonies. A total of $4500 was raised for Water for People, an organization dedicated to providing safe drinking water and sanitation to communities in need in developing countries. The event was graciously sponsored by Koester Associates, Malcolm Pirnie, J. Blanco Associates, and Tony and Joy Della Valle. Additional prizes were provided by Tom Lauro and O’Brien and Gere. This event was organized by the Humanitarian Assistance Committee.
