About

The New York Water Environment Association, Inc. (NYWEA) was founded in 1929, by professionals in the field of water quality as a non-profit, educational organization. Association members helped lead the way toward existing state and national clean water programs. Today the Association has over 2,700 members representing diverse backgrounds and specialties, but all are concerned and involved with protecting and enhancing our precious water resources.

NYWEA will serve the best interest of the public by promoting sustainable clean water quality management through science, education and training.

NYWEA will advance the professional well being of our membership, provide opportunities to expand their knowledge and capabilities and cultivate a forum to enable them to play a vital role in shaping an environmental sound future.

Our Members
Members include civil, design and environmental engineers; biologists, chemists, local and state government officials, treatment plant managers and operators, laboratory technicians, students, professors, lawyers, environmental scientists, equipment manufacturers and distributors.

The Water Environment Federation (WEF) created a series of downloadable fact sheets in PDF to help frame the DEI conversation and provide additional context and insights into different aspects of DE&I. 

We join WEF in our commitment to creating an organization that acknowledges and celebrates our unique differences including education, career background, age, gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, ability status, accent, socioeconomic status, cultural heritage and religion, parental status, marital status, veteran, personality type, political perspective, and all other characteristics of DE&I.

The Organization
The Association has seven local chapters which meet regularly, elect chapter officers and conduct technical as well as social programs.

The NYWEA is a Member Association of the international Water Environment Federation which is comprised of 64 member associations, (19 of which are international) 6 recognized operator associations and affiliation with 3 additional corresponding international organizations.
